Fire, Storm, Flood & Other Perils
This is the common name in the insurance industry for other insured perils where a project managed solution to repair the building is required.
Normally, a Loss Adjuster has already visited on behalf or the buildings insurers and agreed to reinstate.
The case is then handed over to a fully qualified chartered surveyor or engineer who specifies a repair solution and creates a schedule for pricing by one or more contractors, sometimes by way of a formal tender. The repair is then managed with the successful contractor including stage payments and any necessary supervision.
The common types of peril often resulting in damage that require this type of service are:-
- Fire, lightning or smoke
- Storm
- Flood
- Escape of water or freezing pipes
- Escape of oil
- Impact
Examples of these types of damage are the Boscastle flooding in August 2004, Tewkesbury floods in August 2007, cold weather in January 2009, 2012 and 2013 causing burst pipes in the South West of England and storm damage in 2012/2013.
Subsidence and Landslip
Datson Consulting Ltd can provide a full consultancy service for individuals or companies who have damage to their buildings. Initially, a site inspection is conducted, followed by any necessary investigations to confirm the cause.
Once the cause has been identified, the problem is normally removed and a suitable repair to the building can be proposed. Once the repair has been scheduled and approved, this can then be undertaken by an approved contractor.
“Subsidence or heave of the land on which the buildings stand, or landslip” is the common wording of most insurance buildings policies. Subsidence is the most common of these perils and is often a result of:-
- Clay shrinkage caused by moisture extraction from nearby trees
- Leaking drainage or water supply pipes
- Mining features or collapses
- Solution features
Datson Consulting Ltd have over 16 years experience in dealing with claims that range from very little damage of less than £1,000 up to full reinstatement of a whole building at over £350,000.
