For the housing market and commercial building sector we provide a reporting service for Visual, Structural or Property Inspections for mining and ground stability as a result of precautionary or adverse mining surveys.

The company also specialises in providing Loss Adjusting services in the Subsidence field of engineering and other Project Management for insurance claims for buildings such as fire, storm and flood damage.

Specialist work involving Retaining Wall construction or repair, Party Wall Act, Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) are also catered for.

Datson – Managing Director

Nick qualified with an honours degree in Civil Engineering (BEng [Hons]) from the University of Surrey in 1989. Post graduate he also obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Mining Engineering from the world famous Camborne School of Mines in 1992. Following on from this under an approved training scheme from the Highways Department of Cornwall County Council (now a unitary authority called Cornwall Council) he became a full Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE) in 1993.  Finally, Nick also achieved Chartered Status (CEng) with the Engineering Council in 1994.  In July 2020 Nick was given the great honour of becoming a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) which was specifically awarded for services to the subsidence field of civil and mining engineering sectors.

Initially trained as a bridge and highway structural designer, Nick also was a Resident Engineer on various sites throughout Cornwall in his early career.  After a working for a year in South Africa, and then returning to England, he joined Cunningham Lindsey as a Project Manager working as a Loss Adjuster for subsidence insurance cases for over 10 years. After a few years as a developer working for a family company, Nick decided the time was right to set up his own engineering consultancy company which started originally in 2006 alongside property developing. In July 2009, Datson Consulting was incorporated as a limited company and became his full time occupation.
